5-Axis CNC Machining Services for Complex, Tight-Tolerance Enclosures
With our 5-axis machining services at Wagner Machine, we can produce precision enclosures with complex geometries and tight tolerances. Due to the shape of most enclosures, only two setups are required, reducing risk, time, and labor costs. This allows us to provide cost-effective production solutions even for the most complex parts.
Within our machine shop, we have several different 5-axis mills for production volumes large and small. These include multiple automated 5-axis robodrills for quick production of small enclosures and our advanced Matsuura MAM72-35V 5-axis mill. This machine provides exceptional accuracy and efficiency, capable of holding tolerances as tight as .0001”. With its versatile pallet pool, large 350mm diameter working envelope, and 330 tool capacity, it’s ideal for unattended high-volume production and manufacturing larger precision enclosures, as well.

Automated 3-Axis Milling for Cost-Effective Standard Tolerance Enclosures
Not all enclosures have crazy geometry with machining on every side and many don’t require 5-axis milling. For custom-machined enclosures with more standard geometry, we often rely on our 3-axis mills.
These machines provide a cost-effective, high-volume manufacturing solution for certain enclosure projects. With their automated capabilities and exceptional ability to achieve consistent results for high-accuracy parts, 3-axis milling is an excellent way to reduce costs when most of your features can be machined from two or three sides.
✅ Pro Tip: Be mindful of tolerance stack-ups and don’t over-tolerance your enclosures. It is very easy to hold tight tolerances on features on a single face of a part, but if you list tight positional tolerances across multiple faces, the inspection cost and risk of scrap increase greatly.

Additionally, we offer chem film for 6000 series aluminum in house, and we partner with several trusted vendors to provide a wide variety of other high-quality coating and finishing solutions. We’ll work with you to determine the best finishing solution for your parts and find the proper vendor in our network. If you have a specific vendor to use, thats also great. Many of our best vendors have been developed based on customer recommendations. Whether your parts require anodizing, powder coating, plating, or specialty coatings with light-absorbing properties, we perform inspections before and after finishing to ensure exceptional results.
