Do you have a job that makes you love coming to work every day?
We do. At Wagner Machine, we know that good company culture is one of the keys to success for any modern precision machine shop. We’re committed to providing our employees with fulfilling jobs so that they feel like they’re contributing to something meaningful. A little bit of fun never hurts, either.
Whether you’re a machinist looking for a new job or a customer interested in what goes on behind the scenes at our shop, we hope you enjoy this peek inside Wagner Machine.
Our Core Values
We strive to be the most knowledgeable, capable, and innovative source for precision machining and are driven by these five core values:
- Communication. Maintain clear communication between all areas of the company.
- Humility. Work smarter, not harder. Asking for help is the smart thing to do. Acknowledge your weaknesses so you can learn, improve, and grow—just because you saw it on YouTube doesn’t mean you’re proficient at it! 😉
- Integrity. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” Matthew 7:12a
- Innovation. Apply our collective machining knowledge to make “impossible parts.” Encourage problem-solving and outside-the-box thinking on an individual level. Continue to explore and apply new manufacturing processes and technologies.
- Development. Train our employees well enough that they can get a job anywhere; treat them well enough that they want to stay.
6 Reasons to Work at Wagner Machine
Here’s what team members can expect when they work at Wagner Machine:
1. Challenging work environment
We pride ourselves on creating a work environment that continually challenges our employees. If the idea of coming to work and doing the same thing every day sounds boring, our dynamic shop is the place for you.
Manufacturing complex machined parts that other precision machine shops turn down is our bread and butter, and we’re fortunate to work on some really cool projects. Want an example? Recently, we helped build a quantum computer!
2. Advanced capabilities
We’re always upgrading our tools, equipment, and software to help us improve our efficiency and make better parts.
Many machine shops have the mentality that they should “make things work with what they have,” but not us. We’re open to new ideas and frequently update things like tools and fixtures based on employee feedback and recommendations.
3. Small shop feel
We’re growing quickly to meet customer demand, but we’re committed to maintaining a small shop feel.
We’re flexible about our schedule—every Friday is a half-day, and if employees put in a couple of extra hours throughout the week, they can take the whole Friday off without having to use PTO. We don’t mandate overtime or Saturdays.
Our employees know each other and regularly socialize outside of work. We also plan events like axe throwing, paintball, and golf to let loose and have fun in larger groups.
4. Climate-controlled shop
Ever worked in a sweltering shop without air conditioning during the middle of the summer? It’s not very fun. You don’t have to worry about that at Wagner Machine.
Our Illinois shop is climate-controlled with air conditioning and heat to ensure employee comfort year-round. We also work hard to keep the shop floor clean and safe.
5. Ongoing training
We never want employees to feel stagnant, so we provide plenty of opportunities for cross-training.
High-performing employees at all levels are encouraged to hone their existing skills and make progress toward more advanced skills. We offer on-the-job training, CAM training, and reimbursement for classes, fees, and books at our local community college.
Want to learn a new capability like wire EDM, 3D printing, 5-axis milling, or robotic automation? We’ll give you that chance. All managers are working leads and have hands-on experience with the different capabilities and processes to facilitate training.
6. Upward mobility
We believe in rewarding employees who put in the work to advance their careers. If you’re motivated to succeed and do what it takes to prove yourself, we see no reason you can’t go from an entry-level to high-level machinist position in five years instead of 10 or 20.
